Once again it looks like that Hollywood can’t come up with any thing original anymore. It is official Universal Pictures is going to remake Bon Joon-ho’s very successful 2007 Korean monster flick The Host. Set to direct is first-time Fredrik Bond. And here is the kicker Gore Verbinski is producing! This is the producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. This could end up being an amazing remake or another big blunder… I hope for the prior.
The original Host was such an amazing movie. It single handedly proved that monster movies could be done again. Seeing how that trend died out long ago. The last big monster flick I remembered that was actually a big deal excluding Cloverfields was Godzilla. And man did that movie blow… Host had a great ensemble cast that woven in comedic element and dramatic tension to hook, line, and sinker the audience into the story. It was a different kind of experience all together for the audience. The Host for one thing deserves to be given a proper American entry and not a total bomb that is commonly associated with most of American movie remakes. Lets all hope that this works out people!
