So today is going to mark a pretty special day here! I am going to start a daily posting series promoting artists, new and old, to the spotlight! I, for one, am a lover of the arts and this a way for me to give back to the people who opened the doors of artistic possibilities of tomorrow.

Let’s start with Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez. A little bio of him from wiki below:

“Diego Velázquez (June 6, 1599 – August 6, 1660) a Spanish painter who was the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV. He was an individualistic artist of the contemporary baroque period, important as a portrait artist. In addition to numerous renditions of scenes of historical and cultural significance, he painted scores of portraits of the Spanish royal family, other notable European figures, and commoners, culminating in the production of his masterpiece Las Meninas (1656).”

When I look at Velázquez’s paintings it just stuns me. The feeling that I get from his paintings are really out there. His style is crazy and almost unreal. Velázquez really utilize the style of form and retina perspective into his pieces. His paintings showcase depth and almost a sense of looking into a new world. Now who said old school can’t get any respect from the new school? It’s art like these that changes the world. Respect to the Diego Velázquez.
