Far Cry 2 Review: It’s Poppin’ Blanks

After playing Far Cry, I had high expectations for Far Cry 2.  But sadly after forcing myself to play through the campaign, I’m a bit disappointed.

Firstly the main thing you do in Far Cry 2 is shoot everything, and everyone.   Every mission is pretty much the same, kill this group of people, then kill more the next mission.  Sure there’s are missions where you can “negotiate” a deal for a additional way of completing a storyline mission, but really it strives off the same pattern.  Kill, kill, kill.  Other then that, the game consist, of spending 2-5 minutes of driving to the objective that needs to be killed.  Yep gets pretty repetitive, even for a 1st person shooter.

Aside from gameplay, the graphics aren’t to bad, but nothing amazing.  Truth be told, if you want to see the best the game has to offer, just toss a grenade and watch it pop.  That’s as good as it gets when it comes to effects.  Of course watching cars blow can be amusing for a while, but after seeing the same type of explosion effects over and over, it just grows dull in experience.

In the end, Far Cry 2, just doesn’t have enough to offer, to make the game really stand out.  But I guess if your ok with the repetitive play of the game, it’s worth a buy.

Overall Score: 7/10
