There have been a lot of sleepless nights, 18hr days, and madness around the office to get this season off the ground, and Loyal K.N.G.’s spring 2011 is finally ready to make it’s official debut. And as with all of our previous season drops, I’ll be giving y’all an up close and personal commentary and explanation on each of our designs. We spend a lot of time working like mad men to scheme up creative ways to create exiting and personal designs for y’all to rock out in. So it’s a pleasure for me to fill y’all into what goes in our noggin’ when coming up with these designs!

“Super-Atama”
The classic Loyal K.N.G. mascot, Atama, remixed with the iconic Super-man emblem. The idea for this design actually came up during one of the 2010 New Years party I attended. There was a young boy running around with his Super-man “S” emblem shirt on, and for some odd-reason the image of our logo mascot, Atama, being our Super-hero emblem popped into my mind. And as a result, this design came into fruition. “Super-Atama” is a representative of our youth and inspiration driven by heroes. But, honestly, who haven’t seen the classic Super-man cartoons? We all did, and that’s why I had to pay tribute to that part of my childhood.
“Atamakami”
When we introduced our mascot, Atama, last season, I knew I wanted to further expand his personality with our newer designs. And that’s exactly what I did going into designing this piece. The design is influenced by Japanese cartoons and, more specifically, the amazing works of Takashi Murakami. Hence the name of this design being called Atama-kami in honor of Murakami’s influences. And how can you not crack a smile at all the fun facial expression Atama makes!?
“Atama Love”
Continuing even further with the growth in our mascot, Atama. I designed this piece based off a personal doodle for our supporters (each Loyal K.N.G. order I doodle stuff for fun). Atama Love is our way of giving our supporters a heart to sport on their chest and at the same time rock it out with our good pal, Atama.
“Son of KNG”
This design was our way of showing our appreciation for comics and paintings. In “Son of KNG” we took the infamous Rorshach character from the Watchmen graphic novel and combined the similar characteristics with that of René Magritte’s “Son of Man” painting. The apple represents our nature to see beyond the hidden and in this case our mascot, Atama, is the hidden element peaking through.
“Monkey KNG”
I’ve always been fascinated by the eastern fairy tale of the Monkey King’s journey to the west, and “Monkey KNG” was my way of paying homage to that. In this design, I take Atama and turn him into a Monkey KNG with slight aesthetic influences from the classic cult movie, “Planets of the Apes”.
“Final Tales”
“Final Tales” is our way of combining some of our most beloved childhood fairy tales into one crazy design. We took the base idea of the original RPG, Final Fantasy, and united the three pigs and red riding hood together as a team of mages, monks, and warriors to battle it out against the common enemy boss, the big, bad wolf.
“Champions”
One of my biggest influences in art have to be the way Japanese design packaging for their product. The idea of utilizing simple cartoon characters for marketing a product is such an attractive concept. So it was a no-brainer for me to create an anime-influenced design based off of the iconic “Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston” photo. A lot of simple inspiration went into “Champions” from games like the “Super Punch Out” series and sports brand, “Everlast”.
“Bat Luchadora”
As a young lad, I spent a lot of my childhood with my buddies bombing each other in the classic video game, Bomber-man, and along with that, I was a Batman addict. Who knew these fun interests would lead to such a wacky design creation?! In “Bat Luchadora” we bring Bomber-man to the forefront as Batman battling it out against infamous villain, Vain, in a luchadora wrestling match! Mind blowing, indeed.

And we certainly didn’t forget about the ladies this season either. Here are some of the female-cuts of our spring 2011 design.
We’ve alway set out to design pieces that we felt closely connected with, and this season more than ever, does exactly that. It’s our best season so far, and we still have tons of surprises to unveil in the future!
