Funny thing here is that up till now I’ve been drawing with a .5mm mechanical pencil, but as you can see below the drawings change to a much lighter lead. Reason why is because I finally switched my .5mm pencil to the awesome 2mm lead holder! After seeing David Finch and Adam Hughes using the same lead holder, I just had to get one myself (At least they look the same anyways).
After tying it out for some time now, I can say it’s one of the best mediums for penciling I’ve found so far. My lines seem to be just that more controlled causing less scratching, and I love how you can change the length of the lead so you can transition from more loose penciling to tight without having to change your grip. Also nice that unlike a mechanical pencil with all the lines looking the same, and regular pencils that always need to be constantly sharpened, the lead holder combines the greatness of a regular pencil with a mechanical pencil to make a awesome baby.
Oh, and the picture below is drawn with a H2 lead, but I later changed to a HB lead that is just perfect for me. For those who are curious, the lead holder I grabbed was a Staedtler Mars 780 lead holder. But, I wouldn’t necessarily say go out and grab one, but definitely always try to see what is best suited for you.
