Ah, Stan Lee ‘s classic “How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way” was one of the funner books to learn from. I mean, whats not fun about getting to draw all your favorite tight-wearing superheroes? This helped me not only in my poses and gestures, but also helped my anatomy a tiny bit.
Here’s a page where I tried to do some actual drawings with the thing I learned. Also, props to Charles Santoso, I loved how he did his own umbrella girl so much I had to draw one up myself to see how he did it. Learning from other artists is a great way to open your eyes to new things.
One of the things I hate about looking back in my sketchbook is how I catch all the flaws of how I first began drawing. The girl with the blade in particular really bothers me. Her head is way to big, arms and legs are to short, and the body is pretty way off.. Was thinking it looked pretty good when I first drew it to.. Guess it’s good that I see these problems, since now I know I’m improving ahah.
Thought I’d toss in some more random pages of my early sketchbook days. They’re Just some doodles where I did some more practicing on faces along with more stylized ones. Strangely enough I somehow made the Mayor from Harvest Moon (the one in Mineral Town) without me knowing *Points to the only guy with a hat and glasses*. Thought that was kinda cool ^^;.
