(Decided to use re-create the chibi-me from my older days to be my new banner!)
Right now I’m literally cringing by the looks of my first sketchbook doodles — they’re embarrassing! I honestly didn’t even want to begin my sketchbook series from the very beginning due to that. But after thinking about it, I believe its necessary to share where I first began so others doubting their art abilities can understand that they also can improve regardless of where their art-skills are.
I’ll go ahead and warn you guys though, the next few Pervy’s Sketchbook entries wont look pretty since they’re deep into my earliest sketches, but they do get better *wink**wink*..
(These are the very first figures I doodled, and as you can tell I wasn’t lying when I said it wouldn’t look pretty. )
Before getting serious with art, I had little to no understanding on the basic concept on what made a person actually look like a unmutilated being. Because of that, watching me try to draw a regular person was like watching a hippo trying to dance out of water (Yes, it was even worse than those sketches up-top). But, after scavenging the net through sites like ConceptART.org and DeviantART.com, the gurus of the internet slapped me with a patty of knowledge to get me on the right foot. What I needed to learn was foundation, and to learn from life.
Pervy’s knowledge on foundation & life:
To learn to draw is to draw your own depiction of life itself. Whether it’s anime, cartoons, comics, photo-realistic, etc, everything you draw derives from one thing — life. So, if you’ve been doodling away for years and your still stuck in the same level or your not at the level you want to be then stop what your doing and open up a book and that porn stashed deep in a hidden folder of your computer then practice till that porn becomes art!
Now with a mouth full of knowlege I whipped out my Jack Hamm book “Drawing the Head and Figure” and Andrew Loomis’ “Figure Drawing for All Its Worth”, and began learning from what they spent years learning themselves.
And here’s the results:
Don’t worry if your drawings ended up like this — things do get better! I should know, I drew’em.. Anyways what’s important here is not to focus so much on making a attractive character with huge juicy breasts and buns that could crush bricks but instead focus on understanding the foundation on what your learning . (Besides those breasts & buns would probably end up looking like lopsided balloons anyways..)
Ah, and that’s it for my second entry to my sketchbook! Next time I’ll be posting up in more detail on my early faces & poses and give some advice on what helped me improve — The nitty gritty! See you in issue #3! Pervy Away~~~ *Flaps away*
