I am proud to say that our first Loyal K*N*G (LoyalKNG) event was a great success for us! We were able to get assistance from the media, such as radio and newspapers. It’s just amazing and surreal to see photos of the people you’ve worked so hard with on an amazing journey to do something creative and different!

So a few days after our event, my dad dropped this little gem on my lap… It was the local Longview News Journal newspaper with the front page and top headline noting our big event! I was so proud to witness history in the making for our little start-up project. As you can see from the newspaper photograph, David’s Ambassadors has hit the front page of the Sunday’s newspaper!

Here’s the full excerpt from the article:

Inside the auditorium of Oneighty at the Longview Mall, the lights shut off. A blur of red rushed down the center of the aisle, and the silhouettes of five men wearing white masks and red clothes could be seen standing motionless center stage.

The lights returned, and the performance began. An audience of about 100 teenagers and adults applauded as the men moved mostly in unison.

Local dance group David’s Ambassadors performs Saturday at Oneighty in the Longview Mall.

The dance crew, named Jabbawock33z after a winning team on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew,” was participating in a friendly competition with a Longview-based dance crew called David’s Ambassadors.

“We’re trying to bring something fun and new to East Texas,” said Mike Hill, one of the founders of David’s Ambassadors.

Hill, 21, said the group of four guys and one girl formed in 2008 out of a love for dance. They began practicing and creating dances, and they have been invited to perform at high schools and other venues, he said.

Several members participate in the Oneighty youth church at the mall, and with the help of a local clothing line, Loyal KNG, the group was host to the competition to promote dance and the clothing, Hill said.

The performances are about more than just dancing, he said. Hill called David’s Ambassadors a “Christian-based group,” and he said they planned to speak with the audience about their faith.

The members of David’s Ambassadors hope to continue honing their dancing skills. Hill said the group plans to attend a dancing seminar in the upcoming week which will feature lessons from professional choreographers and dancers.

Chris Reid, Oneighty’s youth pastor, said the youth church often hosts events aimed at entertaining young people, although this was the church’s first dance contest. The goal is to entertain before interacting with youth about faith and religion, he said. The church, affiliated with New Heights Church, has about 180 to 200 young people at its Wednesday night services, he said.

“Anything you can do that people relate to, that opens up a lot of doors,” Reid said.
